Is CBD Oil Organic?

CBD oil organic

CBD oil and CBD products have exploded in popularity these past couple of years. You can find CBD at local CBD stores, pharmacies, health stores, food stores, gas stations, online, and many different places. There are a lot of brands of CBD oil available. Finding CBD oil organic, which is genuinely USDA-certified organic is not as common. Many brands will have on their label that the hemp was grown organically or processed organically. That does not mean that the CBD oil is organic.

How to Determine if CBD Oil is Organic?

The number one rule for any CBD product is not to just blindly trust the label. There are a lot of bad actors in the CBD industry. You can see news reports of products intentionally mislabeled with some products not even containing any CBD. There is also the mislabeled of 0% THC in products with THC in them or the full spectrum labeled products that only contain CBD. I will get into those issues in another blog but always look for the certificate of analysis.

Now that you understand that you can’t trust what a CBD label says let’s get into finding CBD oil that is organic, not false advertising. CBD oil organic products do exist! Since the passage of the 2018 farm bill, hemp and hemp products are now federally legal. The 2018 farm bill passage means that the USDA allows hemp and CBD products to apply and maintain organic certification. We now have a standard and a database to search if a CBD product is certified organic like the label claims. If a product is certified organic, the number one giveaway is the USDA organic seal.

USDA Organic Certification

To get the USDA organic seal, there are strict requirements for labeling. It has to include all the ingredients on the label, where the product was produced, and the organic certifying body. You cannot just put the USDA organic seal on your product. If you see a USDA organic seal on a product (and this goes for all products, not just CBD products), you can find that brand/company on the USDA organic integrity database. If a product does not have the seal or is not on the database, they are not organic. They may use organic techniques, but why did they not get the certification?

Vermont Organic Science is true to our name. We maintain certification for USDA organic. You can find our information on the USDA database, and we are certified by NOFA-VT. We would be happy to provide our organic certificate to all asking parties. Producing CBD oil organic products is what we strive to do. Not only is our CBD oil certified organic so is our lab where we extract local hemp. We only extract hemp grown at a local certified organic farm called Last Resort Farm in Monkton, VT.

Why it is Important to Purchase Organic CBD Oil

We have written in the past about the importance of CBD oil organic products. To summarize, organic CBD is free of chemical pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, synthetic fillers, and other nasty toxins. Organic CBD is cleaner for the environment since those toxins are not getting absorbed in the soil. Hemp is a fascinating plant. It is being researched now for the phytoremediation of toxic soil. Phytoremediation means hemp is excellent at sucking up heavy metals from soil. Russia even used it to help clean up the contaminated fields near Chernobyl. So if the CBD you take is not USDA certified organic, then the soil has not been tested, and god only knows what toxins and heavy metals are concentrating in the plant. It is then further concentrated in the extraction process. As I said earlier, always do your research. Look at the databases and the certificate of analysis to ensure the product you are taking is safe to consume.
